As you may or may not know, I am a huge nerd. I mean, I have a degree in Computer Science and spend my work day coding. But that's not why I think of myself as a nerd. Today I watched an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation. I enjoy that show. I don't know what it is, but it's good stuff. In my younger days, I absolutely loved Star Trek: Voyager. Me and my sister and sometimes my mom would watch it when it came on on Tuesday nights. This was back when we had an old TV that had wonky sound. So, if you moved it, sometimes the sound would shut off, and you would have to hit it on the bottom to maybe get it back on. When the show moved to Thursdays, I was terribly disappointed because that was when we went to our dad's house, and he didn't have a TV. That was a sad turn of events. But whenever Star Trek: TNG is on, it usually gets watched unless something better is on, like an Arnold movie.
I also watched Road House. I don't know why, but I think Patrick Swayze is awesome. I think it all started when I came across Red Dawn on TV one day. That movie had me enthralled. Just the premise of it amazed me. Russians and Cubans taking over parts of the United States and a group of teenagers participating in guerilla warfare. Good times. Other than that and Road House, I don't think I've really seen any of his other movies, so I can't explain my fascination. Odd.
As I was watching The Office today, I was thinking about why I don't watch it more often. The main reason is that I hate watching awkward situations. And Michael Scott is the most awkward man alive. I just can't stand watching him be awkward! It makes me want to change the channel. And I often do.
At work I was assigned to a real project. Real being something that we're actually gonna sell instead of a little side project that might be integrated into our suite of software. When I first looked at the code for what I was gonna be working on I was in shock. It was probably the most difficult piece of software that I've ever tried to read. The tabs were all off, the names of variables were not descriptive at all, and nothing was split up into seperate functions. There was a switch statement that was literally thousands of lines long. For those of you who don't know what a switch statement is, it's basically written like this:
switch var
case 1:
do something;
break;
case 2:
do something else;
break;
etc.
This went on for THOUSANDS of cases. This is an example of bad programming. And the whole program is like this. It was quite depressing to look at. But I finally started doing some work on it today, and the stuff that I did was pretty simple and hopefully I'll get the hang of the other stuff as I go along.
Man, I can't believe I actually wrote some code here...told you...nerd!
I upped my Netflix to sending me 2 dvds at one time so I wouldn't have to wait 3 days between movies, I could just stagger them, so while I'm watching one, I can send the other back.
Chris and I have been succesfull in our gym endeavours. We've been going consistently 3 times a week and destroying ourselves. It feels good to be active again.
I suppose this is enough random blogging for now. Maybe I'll update again soon, unless Pittsburgh is destroyed by the impending Super Bowl Riots.
GO STEELERS!

1. I promise you I'm more of a nerd. I mean, you may be more of a dork, but I'm definitely more of a nerd. Case in point: I actually enjoy my classes. Also, I go to bed at 10. Just two of many examples of my nerdiness.
2. I had forgotten about banging on the tv to make the sound go on. However, I must tell you that Mama definitely watched Star Trek: Voyager with us. And I think I mostly liked it because the captain was a woman. And one of the characters was kind of cute. He wore red.
Yes.
Don't go on a trip.
